Challenge of the Week - Getting started !
« on: July 17, 2011, 09:10:02 PM »
Challenge of the Week :

Dear and alive Civ4 Community, it's with great pleasure that I hereby introduce you the
Challenge of the week !

Much in the spirit of the GOTM "Game of the month" on several SP website (Civfanatics, Civfr, German, polish communities, etc.) & in the 'Fastmoves Challenges' (smaller games), I hope the challenge of the week will emulate our best competitors in some micro intensive challenges !

The idea is this : Each 2 to 3 weeks, the team responsible for the challenge of the week will publish a save that you can play as many times as you want, until the end date.
The only restriction is that you do so WITHOUT RELOAD each time (but you can start from scratch)

We will rank our best players by 'turn finish' (the quicker the better) and the team will maintain a ranking of how well each player fared; hopefully we'll keep a ranking updated and create some championship around this.

Compared to a GOTM, it will be
- Relatively short, from 40ish turns to 100turns
- Focused on MP-like settings
- Principally with a 'teaching' goal behind it
- Condition of victory will not be hard coded/native in the game, it could be first to build a wonder, first to get a religion etc.

We also will greatly encourage the winner to explain, with screenshots and details, the way to victory :)

Have fun, the COTW team

Challenge of the Week 1 - Ancient Egypt - COTW 1
« Reply #1 on: July 17, 2011, 09:10:21 PM »
Challenge of the Week 1 : Ancient Egypt

In this COTW you will have the task to built an effective Egyptian army in record times.
You will play as Pericles of the Egyptian, and the goal will be to build 40 Warchariots in the least amount of turns possible

The map will reproduce what the daily ladder player encounters, as this is a TBG Toroidal map, unchanged from the Random Generator

Victory : Build 40 Chariots (just save the game at that stage + Screenshot, info is available in 'F9-Statistics-(sort by 'built')'
Tie rule : if several player have built 40 chariots within the exact same turn, then it's the amount of chariots built that counts (i.e 2 player finish in 55 turns but one with 42 chariots and the other with 43 chariots). 3rd tie criteria will be amount of total tech researched, if a very close tie ever happens.

Map : TBG Toroidal unchanged, duel. 1 AI - is blocked
Leader : Pericles of Egypt
Additional Rules : no limitation, all wonders, etc allowed.

Limit date : Sunday 7 August, included

Download is here :
http://downloads.civplayers-files.com/civ4/COTW1_AncientEgyptB.CivBeyondSwordSave

You can send me (Penny) a PM with your date (preferably a screenshot as well),
Alternatively (compulsory if you rank in the first), we will ask you to send an e-mail to
mailroom@civ4.civplayers.com

Have fun !

Yes it means the AI can't move, just play it to see...

We already have 10+ competitors with good delivery on Civfr, spread the word Civ4-ers.

Get it under 60.

This should be a requirement to be allowed in some ladder games BTW, proof that one know how to buildup  :P

I'm a traveller of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

pop rush and you will save 8+ turns  :o
The idea of death, the fear of it, haunts the human animal like nothing else; it is a mainspring of human activity - designed largely to avoid the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is the final destiny of man.
