Civilization 4 has become the fist game ever to receive a Grammy. The prestigious prize was awarded to one track from the game’s soundtrack called Baba Yetu. You’ll find the music video for the piece above.

Baba Yetu was composed by Christopher Tin for his album Calling All Dawns, but was originally used in Firaxis’ brilliant 2005 strategy game Civilization IV. The song scooped the prize for the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists category at yesterday’s Grammy awards.

Always enjoyed that song.

Yes IMHO, Civ4 had the best theme music and opening animation of all the Civ Series, one of the reasons our CP default theme still is Civ4 based, though I do still like the spinning gears intro of Civ2 as well, but that may well be because it was my first major Civ game that I played.

Yeah, it's a good one--the song and the video.

CS, wasn't there another great song, which might only have been tied to the game during development, which in the end they couldn't use because the songwriter refused to allow his work to be associated with anything to do with war?  I remember it being better than Baba Yetu, actually....  And possibly fairly similar?  Shrug.

Yes there was, but I can't recall what it was now either, I'll probably wake up in the middle of the night now and have to write it down :P

Watching that whole introduction with Baba Yetu playing just made me remember how grand Civ IV felt when we first installed it. What an Epic CIV game was meant to be. Deep in history, science, art and war.
