CivPlayers FAQ#2 Reporting Options
« on: September 29, 2010, 05:12:49 PM »
It is apparent that many players do not understand our new reporting options, so I'll go into some detail about what we have designed.

There are 4 categories in a report, Player, Quiter, Sub, and Sub-did not finish.  When we designed the new league we felt it was important to reward subs, and discourage quiting in at more proactive manner. I think this is self explanitory except for maybe Sub-dnf, which just means a player subbed at some point during a game but had to leave and be replaced by another sub.

It is important that all winners/winning team player, report both subs and quiters as these statistics will aid the league in seeing who are the good players and the not so reliable.  It will also give the management the data we need to police the really bad quiters and hopefully make the league a better place for everyone.

And we have designed the system to reward subs with a 1% skill bonus, and the opposite for quiters.  Subs also will, if they are winners, get the skill from the win.  Quiters will never get any skill from a win, and will always have 1% deducted from their skill.

Also subbing and quitting stats are recorded in the player database and will show up on players profiles.  So you will know who the good subs are and who the unreliable players are.

But this will only work if players record the data in the first place.

So in fact if you are playing a 3v3 teamer you could quite easily have to select 5-6 player slots for each team(they do not have to be the same number of slots) to enter a quiter(s) and the subs that replaced them.  No you do not have to have a sub if you had a quiter, but the option is their for a sub or multiple subs.  Just remember their can only be one "sub" per quiter, and the rest of the subs are sub-dnf, of course if you have multiple quiters you can have multiple subs.

I hope that this is not too confusing and that players will shortly use this tool to their advantage.

Feel free to ask questions if you don't understand the process.

So if a player quits and is not subbed for example a player quits a cton is he reported as a quitter or is this only used in subbing situations?

No you can report quiters with no subs, we tried to think of every possible combination and include that in the code and UI.

imo, a quitter in a cton is worse then one in a teamer.  You know how much harder it is to find a sub for a cton then it is for a teamer.

Yes, if someone quits in a cton, then report them as such.

well one more question and I'm sure this probably goes without saying but just so we're really all on the same page...subs who are on losing team will not take a loss on their record correct?

That is correct.  Subs will never take a loss on their record.  They do however still pick up the +1% skill bonus for being a sub, even if on the losing team.

So let's say there's a 4 person ffa, and someone quit, and someone came on as a sub.  How would that be reported?

Would you make it 5 players instead of 4 then?
3 players, 1 quit, and 1 guy marked as sub?

And if the same thing happened in a 2v2, would you adjust it in the report to a 2v3 to add the person who quit, and the person who subbed in?

Yes you would select 5 slots. The sub would get ranked as he finished but if that means a loss the system will not give him that, just the 1% skill gain.

So for example the sub finished second in points in a cton, this is what it woukd look like:

Player
Sub
Player
Player
Quiter

The quiter gets skill points deducted as if last plus a -1% drop in skill.

In the case of a teamer yes you open slots for an extra player so a 2v2 with a quiter and just one sub would have 2 slots open on one side and 3 slots open on the other side, it doesn't really matter what place you put the sub or quiter on a team.

Just a suggestion, can the confirmation page show the players' status in the game such as quitter, sub etc

I'll add this to our list of code improvements to make, but quitters do get emails sent to them so they can dispute the game if they want too, which is why the rules are very clear that everyone has to have a valid email and check it often.

Remember that if no one disputes a game it is auto confirmed after 3 days, even if 50% or more of the players forget to confirm the game.

Well all I can say is you need to be more careful when you confirm games.  You can dispute games that are wrong and I will delete them.  But there is nothing I can do about a game that has been processed.

No he is still a sub and we reward subs, they get the same +1% as subs.  Sub-dnf, is just a way of listing multiple subs for the same original quit player civ.
