CivPlayers FAQ #1 How to find your Steam 64bit "friends" ID
« on: September 25, 2010, 11:28:03 PM »
Of course by now we all know that for the league to identify who you are according to the Steamworks API, we need your Steam long 64bit friends ID.  But due to the fact that Steam lets players set custom urls for your accounts and pretty much change your name to anything, finding your steam ID may not be user friendly.  So here is a step by step guide.

Firstly goto http://steamidfinder.com/.

On this site you will see a Submit field that takes your profile url no matter what it is.  So copy and paste your steam profile url and hit submit and it will give you a steam short 6 bit ID in return.

Then copy and paste that short ID number back into the Submit field and hit submit again.

This will give you a 16-17 digit 64bit ID number that we need for you to register for the league.

Hope this helps.

Another small change, Steam no longer lists the profile URL in a field on a players profile page.  You know have to right click on the players name and click "copy page url", this will give you the players URL and either the custom url to plug into steamfinder, or will give you the 16 digit ID if they have not changed the url. I guess this happened in one of he last Steam client updates.

Kyp Durron also pointed out this site to me, that gives you both your short and long steam ID in one screen, we of course need the long 64 bit ID.

http://www.vacbanned.com/

It is primarily a tool to check to see what ID have been banned by Steams Valve Anti-cheat system, but it works as just a ID lookup as well.

I am having a problem registering my C5P Account. I found my 64-bit ID. Whenever I put in my game name with the ID it gives me the error message of

"Sorry, This Steam ID is already in use by another account."

How do I fix this?  ???

Can you please email me what your steam ID is, and the link to your steam profile, and I'll see what the problem is.  Or just contact me in our steam chat room.

I still have some questions about the subject. Not for myself though but a lot of new people entering the league often ask me in chat but i cant help 'm most of the times.
For instance when i go to steamidfinder.com and i type just my own profile name it comes up with a result. However, when i do the same thing for new players like Ameche or Tybz68 it comes up with Profile not found. What am i doing wrong?

Also, if i click their names it doesnt show any option to 'copy url' , from top to down i see ;
- send message, view profile, block communication,,, etc till Tag as. The same thing with non friends i meet in civplayers group chat.

You want to view their full profile.  If you have "display steam URL address bar when available" checked in view > settings > interface, you'll have a URL displayed at the top of their profile page.  Just cut and paste that into steamidfinder.
