Noob needs some help
« on: November 10, 2009, 04:09:59 PM »

Right, I need some help playing CIV. Usually play with a friend over the network on Rise of mankind, nut the last few games I've been getting an absolute kicking. So thought I'd come on here and learn some new tricks.

Got a long night shift ahead of me, so was planning on getting a game going if I can and would like some help from the pro's to point me in the right direction.

First problem is I'm going to have to change the firewall settings at work, to allow game spy and civ to work. Does anyone know the ports I have to open for them both to work.

Second problem is I only ever play civ against a friend playing on epic, so don't understand all these differant game types everyone on about. So was hopeing someone would be good enough to show me the ropes in a game. I'm certainly not a complete novice, but don't get the differant game types and not sure how other people will play the game with regards to military and scientific aspects of the game.

Will be online in about 4 hours if anyone's up for a game.

Hi defected.

First, glad to have you in the league, welcome!

Secondly, there have been a slew of posts, tutorials and videos made just for someone such as yourself. We have a vast forum, (yet easy to navigate and find exactly what your looking for.) I would suggest you take a bit of time and peruse some of the sub forums and subjects and then ask more pointed questions about specific details you might be having a difficult time with.

We have recently; thanks to the efforts of Nolan, instituted a mentoring program. One of our senior dedicated players can help you via Teamspeak, email, skype which ever method you prefer, to train you and get you up to competitive speed.

There are also clans you can join who would be honored to have a new initiate to train as most clans also have a plethora of information for starting players.

I strongly urge you to look around here, check a few threads, aquaint yourself with our community and take that next step.

Good luck and welcome to the most addicting thing you will probably ever do:)
