people who host un-passworded games dont really have any right to kick anyone. no password surely offers open invitation ? when i host a game and want to vet who plays in it i password it. if i join an unpassworded game i expect to play with random skilled players. unfortunatley people dont password there games and boot people giving the league a bad name.

what also doesnt help is that people on this sight care more about having pretty stats than actually enjoying the game. it seems to me more apparent since i rejoined the league after a while away. people lag on purpose, drop, ask for scrap and end up just wasting peoples time. this is also why people used to play l33t teamers cos you knew you were getting what you wanted out of the game.

advice would be dont judge the whole league by a few boot-happy hosts. also remember theres nothing to stop new players hosting games.

good luck

Correct, most the problems are down to the "perfect" ranking system imo. Things were better on cases cause nobody took the rankings too seriously and what realy mattered was reputation. Now we have this accurate system people are far more motivated to preserve their rank and less so their reputation... that leads to all the crap you talk about.

That's why I gave up, pretty much...

This 'guy' who I put in quotes because I do hate naming nics, as everyone knows, I am not that kinda 'guy', joins The Cool League Teamer. If you haven't played The Cool League Teamer you haven't played Civ in a long time. This is the Coolest game you can ever find when shopping the civ market perusing an otherwise silent lobby, hoping for that cool league teamer to be hosted.

So, I host this game and we are sitting at 5 when your traditional noob joins. Infinity85 with 0 rank, 0 games played but hes honest, he says, "I just joined league, don't kick me I got skillz!"

I offer the usual condolenses, "Sorry mate, you gotta play a few ctons or duels first, get some rank."

He recieves a few other cat calls, I think one person told him to leave, grow a pair of balls and come play with the big boys when he himself has reached a level of gaming maturity. I can assure you, it wasn't worded such as this, I am offering an interpretation.

He pleads, he begs, he offers verbal proof to how great a player he is and so out of annoyance, I tell him to x in; tell everyone else to x in, I finish the game settings, I x in, then I wait a second before pressing the big red X next to his nic.

My staging is howling with laughter and Infinity85 is spitting venom in the lobby. Ah, yes nostalgia of the good ole days when I was Infinity and the hosts were the top dogs in thier age. Been thier Infinity, spouted the same profanitys you did with equal hatred I am very sure.

I confess, I enjoyed this moment so much, I offered him a spot back in the teamer, asked him why he disconnected, told him we are launching when he joins and kicked him all over again. I was told I was cold at this point, others said I should do it again, but I felt a strange relation with this apoplectic chap whos profanitys were now including, "SCREENSHOT," "ASSHOLES," "ADMINS."

He joins again, altho its pretty obvious he is simply looking for ammo at this point. Unfortunately he is slot 11. With a calm explanation I gently inform him he has joined to late and he has filled a slot we are not willing to launch with. He leaves without a word, says nothing in lobby and seems content with the explanation.

One rant he had in particular while he was spewing his venemous hatred in the lobby, he felt he was entitled to join my teamer simply because he had joined the league. I as a host wanted to berate him for this misconception, yet I said nothing for he would understand one day.

I as a host, host my own game and not any league can tell me who I do or don't let into my house when I am hosting. If I don't like you, or if I don't think your connection is fair, or even if I feel your a quitter/imposter/newbie/unsportsmanlike, whatever my celebrated reason is, I have every right to boot you, passworded or not and no one can tell me otherwise. I can boot you however I like and there is nothing you can do about it, other then don't join my games in the future, call me names and hate me forever.

Of course I have honor, if you have been in my staging for 15 minutes waiting for a game, I don't care who you are, I promise you, I won't boot you. If I have played you before and your new, but I told you to join league, I won't boot you. I rarely bow to public pressure when told to boot an individual; however, if I do not know you, I will ask the staging room if anyone does. I am asking for someone to vouch for you and if no one can, I will boot you.

Its all about street rep, no rep, no game, play a few ctons, try a couple duels, get your brand out there. This is the reason I don't pw my games, let The Cool League Teamer be the standard by which your are judged. Go ahead, join up, try a whirl at the staging game, but its not guarenteed you will play.

When moving up to a new challenge in life ( we can use from non-ladder to ladder as an example); you might encounter some people who are very friendly and inviting, and others who dont care and dont want to give you a chance.  None of that really matters, all that mitters is whether you accept the challenge and fix the problem ( your skill level).  Or you could just give up and say its too hard, and that life isnt fair and that its impossible to move up.  I guarantee almost evrey single player who is at least decent in ladder first got booted when theystarted playing.  Deal with the situation how you may, but bitching in the forums to players who neve r bitched themselves may not evoke much sympathy from some of us, including me.
Once upon a time, there was a powerful and surprising rush.  In the end that humiliation motivated me way more than anything else could. (TMB)

The problem is that veterans all know that there are very few real noobs out there at this point who are joining the ladder.

90% of the time, and unknown name is simply someone hiding their "real" identity. I'm honestly sorry for the real noobs out there who end up the victims of troublemakers such as these.

+1

The other truth is we know your story (the same as all new players) and you dont know ours.  Its basically impossible to know how to play multiplayer civ in your situation compared to some players who have talked and learned about how to play for years now.  If you can understand everything and retain all the information you are told it will still take a few months at the fastest to become a good player.  If I had a nickel for every single time a noob said they were good and they had no clue, well I'd have a lot of fucking nickels.

So how should you go about playing civ?  Join a clan and get training.  Get TeamSpeak and try talking to more experienced players about what you should have done afterwards.  Read the strategy sections.  Visit Civfanatics.com .  Maybe I'll see you around and I try to give advice when I can in games.  Be patient and then you will become the one booting people from your games ;)

This is why players leave or dont join league and you(people) say your league is dieing... (ie old players leave but you cant find new players to replace them) If you ask me your = a**hole.

You just could of said sorry dont know you im now going to kick you cause you have played no games and 0 rank. But play a few games then join and we can play.

Why was there a need to keep kicking him ? You said you were there before, So cause you were kicked when you were new (unknown) you think thats make it all right?

If the league is ever going to learn you would have to stop doing whatever is wrong. Try give new players a chance. I dont mind helping really new players as game is just a bit of fun. If you do want a real great only PRO teamer just do a pw. Or change your game name To (Ranked players only Teamer) So thay will know thay will be kicked if thay join.

you know what, in a way I don't blame Marr, the gent was told he would need to prove himself first before joining a teamer and he apparently did not wish to heed Marrs advice. Been there done that and still doing that in teamers. I've been playing for at least 5 years now and I still ask if anyone minds if I join. If just one does not wish me to stay I leave with no problems.
To the noobs, if you have just joined the league, then please realize that alot of these players are playing for their rank on the league as well as to have a bit of fun. If you are a new and unproven player, then chances are they are not going to allow you to play as a teamer requires all players of that team to be able to work together. Keep your eyes open though if it is teamers that you wish to play only because there are some up that allow Noobs to join.
GL to all the new noobs from an old noob and don't give up. ;D

maybe need to label ladder teamers as

League Teamer 'playing for rank, dont want you ruining my rank noob'

unfortunatley virtual environments go hand in hand with abuse, both of power and verbal. imo a lot of people couldnt give a fuck about the league or community itself, they are just interested in using the rules it provides their games with ( no quitting, cheating ). Others are just interested in winning.

there are some people who play to enjoy. not many though. and you wont find those people pinging and swearing at someone because they dont play aswell or muck up.

Shit happens, at the end of the day its a game. GAME.

GAME

GAME

this is a game. if this is the most important thing in your life then you need a re-evaluation.

Noobs, keep trying. the more you play the more your be allowed to play. If people dont let u play, host yourt own. even have it as noob teamer, nob cton, whatever.

Ibrahim; sorry you had a bad experience some players are just not nice.  What they mean is that you are not signed up on the Civ Players Ladder Leauge Site

http://league.civplayers.com/?section=home

Once you sign up there; then you can play ladder games.

Obviously, no one knows what sort of player you are with a 0-0 record, and only one game showing up in your past 10 (I guess you reset your stats?).

Quote
CTON: Final Standings - 1. Dodgey1 (112); 2. horde (423); 3. Slyfer (184); 4. Ibrahim (349).

Can you really blame people for not being willing to take a chance that you are not totally new?  I suggest you prove your mettle in some CTONs, Duels, and small games (2v2, 3v3, etc.) first, and establish a decent record.  Then you will be let into bigger team games.
