Clearly the map is not perfectly balanced, but there is some balance-- for instance europe is crowded but its loaded with bonuses wheras Russia for instance may have a lotta room it has much less resources.  Likewise if you don't start w/ bronze you prob start with horses and iron.  I def think its not a lot more unbalanced than civ always is.

We should play on the monitor mod also, using turbo speed or ironmanfast timer is a really huge plus. No more long waits.

So all who don't have it go install it, found in downloads section here.

With this mod you can also kick hotjoiners out of the game ;)

How does Ironman fast work btw?

All I can think about is having to battle and not being able to do all the moves or think because the timer is too fast.
(Regardless of what you may think that's how Shizanu lost the Ironman in the last CCC... not enough time to make all moves or think)

Shizanu lost it because he had the land of 3 people, having gotten the caps of 2 people very early.

I played 2 Ironman last few days on blazing with Europeans / Germans only and it was managable though in the beginning pretty stressful.

What is nice at civ and why we all keep playing it in ladder is because no game is like other, always other land always map make u think at the best strategy to plant and hook resource and same time best to defend and shit like this make it good.
Now earth isn't like this.I would like to play too but after 2-3 games we all will get bored.Same shit all time.

how is that different from inland sea, tbg, mirror? :D

And to decebal/jobe with 12-18 players there will be a lot more lag than you'll have in the CCC ironman game. Esp with europ players. Plus with Monitor mod, you don't HAVE to run the game on turbo all the time, you can use slower speed too. But generally the games lag and are slowish, and faster timer would be a great addition.

I think Long Earth 3 is ok but we probably want one of the ones with the enlarged europe for more balance.  I think its Earth is for Conquerers or Earth for the Ages.

RP:  Monitor mod would be great long term, but it is definitely a hassle upfront to get it going with players that don't have it.  If it really helps lag tho, I wish we could just have it forced into the next patch.  :D

Ok set a time camus ... I will check the map out tonight.

Another question, doesn't this suffer from OOS every other turn when boats are about?

I think just dont have every european nation played and its ok. I think Long Earth 3 is rather ok. But whichever works.

Using monitor mod isn't really that hard, every ladder player basically has it anyway.

so all that remains are you earth players. And it is very easy to install. Everyone here has managed it :D I don't see a problem with it, as long as all participants know it have to be installed.

Main advantages. You can change gamespeed on the fly. and have faster speed settings available.

You can kick players out of the game.

You can change certain game parameteres if you prefer too. Such as flanking, settler cost, Ban nukes, etc. Go read more on the mod :p

And to answer Tony, we ban direct landing. It is forbidden. That solves it. Only problem remains is AI nations landing each other or players, but that isnt as big a problem.

Yeah I have played monitor mod and I know its great, but I also know that every tourney that uses it has some delay with 1 player trying to get the MOD.

The earth leaguers have a game set for Saturday, and I am speaking with them now about getting it to be a ladder Ironman game.  Stay posted for times.

Sorry for the misunderstanding about the league game yesterday on the sign up part, but I can't take 2 lists of people and see who gets in.

From now on when it's posted a link to the thread on civearth.com will be posted here.

Again sorry for the misunderstanding.

It is excellent that more ladder players are trying out the earth maps, for th emost part they are pretty balanced. All depends on your neighbors and how you play, which isn't it that way in every game you play? Someone said something about knowing the map after 2-3 times playing it you would get bored, well I have played this game off and on again since its release and Earth maps have always maintained my interest more than anything else. Just because the map is the same doesn't mean that the game will play out the same. There are so many diffferent variables to take into account that almost every game is different from the other.

I hope yesterday was a success sorry I was unable to attend, hopefully I will be able to  make the next one. On that note, I know there are at least 3-4 big earth games played every day, if we could start getting people signed into ladder we could very easily have a ladder earth game dailly if not twice-three times a week. Perhaps set a turn limit, or we could do it like we did epics back in c3c benchmarks. so say we set one bench mark for turn 150, if someone can't continue past turn 150 then they report or it is reported based on points at that point, anyone wishing to continue can go on to the next bench mark and get reports for the remaining players. Something along that lines anyways.

I am with Acamus with the earthers needing to be in the ladder, it gets old having people drop after turn 30 cause their rush failed or something isn't going right for them so they just leave. There are always outside influences that bring people to have to leave a game prematurely, but at least those that stick around should get something out of it.

Anyways I hope this works out. C ya in Earth!

Earth seems to be reaching a critical mass to where Earth games might be a ladder possibility.  Lots of noobs (like me) play but also I have seen a pro or two (panda) in them.  Might be fun to do as an ironman on a saturday or sunday, or we could do a turn limit otherwise.

I played one great earth game that lasted until modern with all 5 (remaining) civs within a couple hundred points of each other, so sometimes the games can be balanced throughout instead of fast dominance.

If there is any interest plz post it up here.  I got a few of the earth players interested; some are old pros from civ3... There is a critical mass of non-quitting earth players who want to play to finish, but not enough to fill a game (which is quite fun); would be nice if a few veterans are interested who won't call everyone noobs and scare off and instead encourage what should be a no-brainer addition to ladder.

That game we played a few weeks back was great.  If that could be repeated every weekend then i'm sure some of the old vets as well as newer players would be more then interested in playing it as a ladder format.  I also like the ironman idea.  Back when i played ladder on warlords i recall playing a few ironman games which were very enjoyable.
