Civ Champions League (CCL) III
« on: January 20, 2009, 04:21:05 AM »

I am more then happy to announce the third edition of the Civ Champions League (CCL)!

It is a tournament with a long history, but the first editions were played only in between european (BF, civfr, kac, rus) leagues and players and wasnt posted at C4P, so I gotta tell you a bit about CCL what you maybe didn't know yet.  ;D

The last two editions were played a long time ago, first in 2006 we played it in 1v1 mode, afterwards we switched to bigger games but used diplomacy, which wasnt competitive enough for an international tournament. After the 2nd edition I've made some long break in playing/organizing tournaments.

But we're back, I've teamed up with [PPP]Shizanu to set up a great tournament and it will be stronger then ever. We've got the chance to set up a whole own tournament page on the new ladder software of BF.

But I dont want to bore you here with old stuff, just look at the pictures and find out if you wanna be the next Champion in this international Civ tournament! We are rewarding the winner of CCL III the first time with a trophy, which will be sent to the winner after he/she wins the CCL Final:

Former Champions of CCL:
CCL I. : Math (FRA)
CCL II.: Peter (POL)

In the next post I will explain the settings and rules of CCL III.

If you cannot wait, just follow the link to see the tournament page: CCL III Tournament Page

On the tournament page everything is set up, you can sign in automatically, but please check first if you can play for sure on the fixed dates!

A small overview about the timeline and some first settings: (see underneath detailed settings)

Game Settings:

Map: Inland Sea
Size: Standard
Sea level: low
Era: ancient
Civ speed: quick
Level: noble
Climate: temperate
World wrap: flat
resources: balanced
victory conditions: conquest, domination, point victory, space race
options: always war, no barbarians, no random events, no tribal villages, rest disabled

Multiplayer Options:
simultaneous turns
timer: blazing
AI overtaking: yes
City elimination limit: 0
End of game: turn limit 160 turns in first round of tournament, victory condition in semi-final and final.

Additional rules during games:

- CTON: players are not allowed to talk about the running game, no diplomacy of any kind. Players who are in the same game, are not allowed to be in the same teamspeak channel.

- Direct boating of cities is banned in order to avoid oos – u have to land ur units next to opponents city and attack then. We kindly ask u not to intentionally let units stay next to city. Still players are allowed to directly attack units not in cities, but PLZ move the boat next to unit, select the units on the boat and move them, this way u get no oos.

- Nukes, including Manhattan project, are banned

- Internet is banned (decided/edited on January 30/31)

- Civ pick, restricted leaders, players pick while anonymous is on, host turns it off, before game starts

- Disconnects: If a player is disconnected from a game, the others have to wait 10 min before continuing the game. If it happens more then twice to the same player, the others can continue without waiting on the 3rd and further times the same player is disconnected

- Quitting is strictly forbidden and quitters will be penalized for CCL IV

Wrong, wrap is flat, what makes a huge difference. It change a non sense game rush to a "real" ironman.

how are to leader picks made? What does restricted mean?

Picks are made like this: Host puts on anonymous, then everyone picks and x in, then host turns of ano and launchs the game.

With restricted we mean simply that what gitbliss mentioned, there are no mixed leaders/nations possible like Shakka from Mayaland as example, so no unrestricted leaders.

There is one small change in the rules; we banned the Internet, rest is still valid, it came up only just now when we checked the rules again. I updated it today on all places where you find the rules. (2nd post in this thread and inside rules thread of CCL Forum)

About signing in/out for CCL:
If anyone sees that the dates for playing look impossible to him, feel free to use the "sign out CCL" Button on the Tournament page at least 3 days before CCL starts. Its important for us, coz 1. all games are containing a planned number of players and it would hurt the system and the map, if less players would occur, and 2. it would mess up seeding and those games if on the tournament day anyone doesnt show up.

Tomorrow I will post the last possible date (I think it will be February 4) to sign in for CCL, we are preparing to seed you guys fairly (by Ranking) to set up the games in a fair way.

Check the next days the CCL Page and also the CCL forum, as we will start tomorrow feeding more and more informations in there.

Just want to tell you, that we are extremely happy on what great players signed in to CCL! I think there are about 10 players of Top20 by c4p Ranking (of course many players lower ranked are as good as well as many dont care about ranking, but still its an indicate) which is just great!

We will make all the efforts to make it for all of you a great tournament to play. One week - 1 hour to go till CCL starts!

This is only an example of the Seeding to show you with 15 players and not all 32 players, as we will take the actual rankings only by friday, 6th of February 10 pm MET. As you can see, we take always first 3 players from C4P Ranking, then 1 player from Battlefield (BF) Ranking for generating the seeding.

This is self-explaining, left hand you can find the seeding Nr. of a player which will be placed in the Games A-D. Afterwards players move to semi-final, as example in semi-final X you can find the Name "A 1" which is the 1. place of game A. Like this, you can overview easily all the tournament, once the players will be seeded.

You will find the definitive seeding in the CCL Forum by tomorrow!  ;)

I may not be able to make it at 2pm CET, can we postpone the game by 1 hour? I have things I have no way to get around.

If we can move the game to 3pm CET, I can make it for sure.

Thanks, RedPhoenix.

Hi RedPhoenix, the final game is on saturday, we talked about sunday during our game yesterday. ;D

Can you do it for saturday on 2 pm (gmt+1)?

So, from players out of 14 Nations and 4 Continents we've got only europeans (3 frenchies :o) left for the finals of CCL III. :P

Looks really like a damn hot final:

I wonder already where do I have to send the trophy. ;D
