In the new game, cities now physically expand on the map, units can be combined into a single tile, and there are new multiplayer modes designed for players to finish a game in a single session.

Nevermind. After reading on, apparently this is going to be a Civ V reboot.

Well quite a few changes from Civ5 still, the graphics are still cartoonish.  I'll reserve judgment until I see more gameplay mechanics and especially see how the MP code is.  Ed Beach is a very switched on guy, so I'm hoping he learned from the mistakes made with Civ5

Read something the other day that said that since they made so much money on Civ5, that there only tweaking the game. No big changes.

I agree that the entire thing still looks like and ipad game.

From what I have seen, they consider Civ5 core gameplay as pretty good, but still needs some help.  Now what you consider major changes or not is a matter of opinion.  The cities are getting a major overhaul for instance, and units are being linked in minor stacks in the way of support units and Corps.  It's still to soon to say the the total package is like, but the underlining code is going to be 64 bit and multi threaded,  so hopefully the problems with large maps and end turn lag will be minimized, no demo's of MP yet, but that is not a surprise as we are still 5 months from release.
